“The Power of Education”

Barbara F. Zelazny

The YWCP Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Barbara F. Zelazny has been named as the new principal of the school. "We are proud to be able to provide our students and staff with a leader of Ms. Zelazny's repute," Flor Colon, chair of the YWCP Board of Directors, said. "She has all of the qualities that we were looking for - experience, compassion, enthusiasm for learning and an infectious energy that will inspire the YWCP community."

Ms. Zelazny is an experienced educator and administrator. She previously was the Principal at Northwest Jr. High at Douglass in Rochester. Prior to that, she served as the Principal of Avon High School, Assistant Principal at Irondequoit High School, and taught Social Studies in Irondequoit and Geneseo.

Ms. Zelazny earned her Master of Education from Roberts Wesleyan College, completing an Honors Project on Authentic Assessment, and has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Studies Education from SUNY Buffalo. Additionally, she received a New York State School District Administrator Certificate from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, Leadership Academy.

She shared that she is excited to join the YWCP family and to begin working with the students. “As the principal of Young Women’s College Prep, it is my duty to build upon the foundation and pursuit of excellence that has preceded me,” she said. “It is essential that these young women receive an education that positions them competitively for college and careers."

Her first day will be January 1, 2018
