YWCP is Springing into Action!

The spring of 2017 brings some exciting activities to YWCP.

At the high school, our girls in the Junior class will take the SAT for the first time and participate in College Day.  College Day is an event that the girls have been preparing for their entire time at YWCP.  They are currently working on their college essays that will be included in a portfolio of work that includes a resume and their transcripts to provide an overview of their work as students.  They have been working closely with their counselors to select all the colleges that they would like to apply to.  On April 6th, we have invited more than 30 college recruiters to join us for College Day.  The hope is to have each girl interview with a college that she has selected or a similar college to get real feedback on how best to accomplish acceptance and admissions to that college.

At the middle school, our girls are preparing to show what they know on all NYS Common Core Assessments with the first being the English Language Arts exam.  The girls have been working on projects such as the Hidden Figures project that will support their work on the NYS assessments.

All of girls are gearing up for the second round of college visits this spring.  The 7th graders will visit Genesee Community College, the 8th graders will visit SUNY Brockport, the 9th graders will visit SUNY Buffalo State, the 10th graders will visit SUNY Geneseo and the 11th graders will visit SUNY Fredonia.

In an effort to develop a “work hard, play hard” environment, YWCP is holding several Saturday sessions to support strong academics.  All students must participate in some Saturday sessions to qualify for certain extra-curricular activities such as Prom and the end of the year Darien Lake trip.

We are heading into a busy time of year, but we know that our students are well prepared for the opportunities and challenges ahead of them!
